Know Your Rights About the New Marijuana Law

Everyone knows that smoking marijuana is now legal in New Jersey. But there are important limitations on this new right. For example, you can legally possess marijuana if no more than six ounces. If over six ounces you have committed a crime.

Being under the influence of marijuana while driving a motor vehicle will cause you to lose your driving privileges similar to being under the influence of alcohol. You are not permitted to smoke marijuana in a moving vehicle even though you are a passenger. If you do so the driver, who is not smoking marijuana, may become impaired from the smoke and be charged with a violation. There are other aspects and limitations to the new law of which you need to be aware.
